NOTE FROM EDITOR: This is the first of Valdosta Today’s “Vanishing Series,” by author, poet, historian and photographer Brian Brown, whose hit websites Vanishing South Georgia, Vanishing North Georgia, and Vanishing Coastal Georgia caught our attention. We are happy to have him contributing his photos and stories this week.
By Brian Brown
LOWNDES CO., Ga. – One of my first “discoveries” when I began seriously searching for landmarks and forgotten places was Vallotton’s Dairy Farm barn. This survivor on Bemiss Road had always caught my eye but I never really paid much attention until I pulled off the road one day and took at least a hundred photographs, from every angle I could manage. Vallotton’s has been a well-loved Valdosta institution since the 1940s. If anyone has any stories or memories, please share.
