LOWNDES Co. – Lowndes High School hosted Bainbridge this year for their Preseason scrimmage, and it did not disappoint.

Surprisingly, Lowndes started off sluggish against the Bearcats. Their star running back Dameon Pierce, who is already committed to Alabama, had no problem making plays against the Viking defense, but on the first series Lowndes held them to a short drive resulting in a punt.

However, the Bearcats got an early 3-0 lead against the home team.

Little did the bearcats know how fast the Vikings can score on offense. With a little over three minutes left in the first quarter after a 3-0 deficit, Xavier Jenkins hauled in a 78-yard TD pass from Micheal Barrett. After that, it was all Lowndes. Barrett finished 11 for 18 with 217 yards and a TD. JD Lee and Deonte More both had a rushing touchdowns later in the game.

The defense dominated the second quarter; not allowing a score. They were more physical than they’ve been in the past. Dameon Pierce was only held to 99 yards and a touchdown by the Viking defense through three quarters.
At the start of the 4th quarter, the score was reset at 0 and the JV teams took over. Lowndes only had one score in the quarter to give the Vikings’ JV team a 7-0 win. Both the Varsity and JV looked impressive against a fast and physical Bainbridge team.
With an off week coming up, Lowndes looks to get healthy and practice to get better against a motivated Valdosta squad. Valdosta hosts Lowndes on August 19th in the annual Winnersville Classic.
