VALDOSTA – Valdosta police and firefighters were called out to the Boys and Girls Club on Thursday, but not for what you may think.

They were challenged to a game of basketball.

The club says the kids look forward to this tradition every year.

A trophy goes to the winner, but many say it’s much more than just a prize.

“I grew up on station three on the south-side of town playing ball with the firefighters and they made a great impact just as role models to me,” says Johnny Henry, Administrative Battalion Chief at the Valdosta Fire Department. “Turns out, I became a firefighter. I believe we’re showing everybody a positive message through the game of basketball and what we do in the community.”

The Boys and Girls Club took home the victory, beating them 60 to 39.
