MOULTRIE — The Packers would like to settle the National Championship debate on the field.

helmet-colquittcoColquitt County Head Football Coach Rush Propst held a news conference in Moultrie to state his desire to see a national high school championship playoff system.

This came as a result of several national polls placing the Packers, the 2015 Georgia High School Champions in Class 6-A, being named either first or second.  Two of the polls gave the Moultrie school their “National Championship”, but 4 other recognized polls placed the Packers second.

Propst believes it time to do something about it.

“The pride that Texas has, California, Georgia, Alabama, Pennsylvania, teams throughout this country,” he said, even adding that he believes viewership would be high then some early college Bowl Games. “If we could do this, we’d have a true National Champion, number one, played on the field, and number two, the interest level would be enormous.”

The two things he believes is standing in the way of this opportunity are money and a cap on the number of games a high school team can play.

Propst attempted to schedule games with schools in Nevada and Florida, but the schools were restricted by state rules.  He believes this system would change those rules and present a showcase for the nation’s top high school programs each year.
