ATLANTA — Two of the hottest programs in the South look to compete in front of a national audience, as the reigning Orange Bowl champion Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Tennessee Volunteers appear poised to open the 2017 season in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic.
The former SEC rivals have met on the field 43 times, but their last meeting was in 1987, when the Vols walked away victorious in a 29-15 game in Knoxville.
According to College Football Talk: “Georgia Tech and Tennessee are the rumored participants for the 2017 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, and an official announcement could be made in the coming weeks.”
Last season, Alabama defeated West Virginia 33-23 in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic. The 2015 game will feature Louisville and Auburn, and the 2016 game features North Carolina and Georgia.
