ATLANTA — Officials of the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game announced that Georgia will face North Carolina to open the 2016 college football season.
The game, to be played at the Georgia Dome, will be held September 3, 2016.
This will be the second time both schools have appeared in the season kick-off game, which began play in 2008 matching teams from the Southeastern and Atlantic Coast Conferences.
North Carolina lost to LSU in 2010, while Georgia lost to Boise State in 2011, in the infamous Nike Pro Combat Uniform game.
However, this is the first time in decades the Tar Heels and Bulldogs will meet. They last clashed in 1971.
For 2015, the game has scheduled Louisville to face Auburn on September 5.
