CORDELE, GA – (AJC report) – Early Sunday morning, Cordele police were called to a residence to investigate a disturbance. LeJune Benjamin Cobb, 38, took five people hostage, including two children, during a standoff with police.
At one point, the three adult hostages were able to escape, while the two children remained in the home with Cobb. The Crisp County Sherriff’s Office was called to help with hostage negotiations, and eventually the childeren were removed from the home while Cobb remained.
There were multiple exchanges of gunfire over the course of negotiations. After several hours, a Tri-County Special Response Team made it inside the home to discover that Cobb had been shot. Cobb later died from his injuries after being taken to a hospital.
No police were injured during the event and the GBI is investigating.
