HALL COUNTY, Ga. – A 16-year-old girl who was believed to idolize Dylan Roof, the shooter who killed nine people in a predominantly black church in South Carolina, has been charged with the criminal attempt to commit murder, according to WSBTV.
The teen, who is white, was caught with plans to attack Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church after a classmate told an administrator about the notebook of “detailed plans to commit a murder.”
According to Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish, the teen collected knives in preparation for the attack and attempted to get inside at least once.
Parrish went on to say, “This is an active investigation and a prime example of how strong relationships between the student body, school administration and law enforcement can intercept a potentially horrific incident.”
The teen, whose name has not been released, is currently in Gainesville Regional Youth Detention and cooperating with authorities.
