VALDOSTA — Dr. Cecil P. Staton, interim president of Valdosta State University, recently hosted a dinner to honor members of the Pearson Society, President’s Circle, and Order of the Dome for the role they play in protecting and nurturing VSU’s tradition of academic, creative, and athletic excellence on campus, in the community, and around the world.
Named after Dr. F. Lamar Pearson, who taught history at VSU for 39 years, the Pearson Society encourages a lifetime of giving to VSU and recognizes individuals who have reached a cumulative lifetime giving total of $100,000 or more.
The President’s Circle recognizes individuals who make an annual contribution of $25,000 or more to VSU.
The Order of the Dome recognizes alumni and friends who have made a provision for VSU within their estate plans, including bequests, charitable trusts and annuities, and life insurance gifts.
During the evening it was announced that the Order of the Dome will be renamed the Jenkins Society, after Dr. Brantley Jenkins, who taught physics at VSU from 1968 to 1984, and his wife, Barbara. The couple committed $17 million — the largest gift in the history of VSU — to Invest.Ignite.Inspire. The Campaign for Valdosta State University in 2014.
