VALDOSTA – For the second time in three weeks, Cooper Cain has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Cain has been red hot as of late, and his sizzling performance during game two of last weekend’s series sweep of the rival Lions of North Alabama reflected his domination in recent weeks. The outing marked Cain’s second complete game of the season and lifted his season record to a perfect 4-0. He helped fuel Valdosta State’s victory over the Lions after dealing 7.0 innings without allowing a single earned run, which lowered his season ERA to 3.08. In addition, the freshman struck out six batters and gave up just two base hits.

Cain and the Blazers will travel to Cleveland, Miss. this weekend for the Gulf South Conference Tournament, where the team will open up postseason competition at 11:00 a.m. EST on Saturday morning against the Union Bulldogs.
