HEPHZIBAH, Ga. – A Georgia teacher was reportedly placed on administrative leave last week after posting a description of the Confederate flag in a high school classroom as an announcement that you “intend to marry your sister.”

The teacher, who is employed by Hephzibah High School, displayed description on a board with a photo of a Confederate flag, Augusta’s WRDW-TV reported.

According to a report from Fox News, the description said the Confederate flag is “a sticker you put on the back of your pickup truck to announce that you intend to marry your sister. Think of it like a white trash ‘Save the Date’ card.”

The Augusta Chronicle reported that a social media post about the message said it was projected on a Hephzibah High School classroom whiteboard.

The post from a parent of a student shows the projection that includes a Confederate flag and the statement, “a sticker you put on the back of your pickup truck to announce that you intend to marry your sister. Think of it like a white trash ‘Save The Date’ card.” It was reportedly used as an example of a story within a story.

The school district issued a statement on the controversy that said in part:

The Richmond County School System is committed to creating a diverse, equitable learning environment for students. The language used in the example was unacceptable and has no place in our classrooms.”
