The service of Dougherty County Police officer Steve Davis who lost his life in a tragic Thanksgiving Day vehicular accident will long be remembered and so too the short life of A’Daesha Holly the eight-year-old girl who was also killed in the incident. Families and friends of the girl gathered at the site of the crash yesterday as their mourning continues. Balloons were released at the site of the fatal two car crash at a vigil in memory of A’Daesha. Her mother K’Mesha Holley at last report remains hospitalized and is expected to undergo another surgery today; her brother Kendall is in an Atlanta hospital and is reportedly paralyzed from the waist down. Charges are currently pending against K’Mesha Holley for failure to yield at a stop sign.
At last report the three-year-old boy that was injured during the Valdosta Christmas Parade was listed in critical but stable condition. According to the police the child was riding on one of the parade floats when he either decided to get off the moving vehicle or fell. The child was initially taken to SGMC and then airlifted to Shands hospital.
Gasoline prices are on the rise across the rise throughout the area as the holiday season is here. According to AAA the cost of the average price of regular gasoline over the weekend was $2.10-up nine cents from a week ago. The average national price was at $2.18 and in Georgia the cost was at $2.12.
The members of the Valdosta-Lowndes County Hospital Authority have announced a meeting for Tuesday December 6th at 8 am. The meeting is scheduled to take place in the executive board room of South Georgia Medical Center.
United Way volunteers in Moultrie and Colquitt County are celebrating topping the 500-thousand-dollar mark in fundraising; that’s the amount raised last year. However, at last tally this year’s campaign has brought in nearly 600 thousand dollars in matching funds, pledges and direct donations. The United Way serves 19 member agencies in the Moultrie-Colquitt County area.
Thanks to the Rotary Club of Thomasville military families were treated to a holiday dinner and other festivities at the National Guard Armory. The men and women of the 1230th Transportation Company and their families were able to jump start holiday celebrations at home. Many of them have served in the theatre of war in Afghanistan in recent years during the holiday season.
