Fitzgerald law enforcement officials say that the shooting that led to the death of a female victim from Atlanta and the critical wounding of a Fitzgerald man may have been the result of a tragic domestic dispute. Police recovered the weapon used in the shooting but are still unclear as to who fired the shots.


 

27 year old Lewis Lopez is still recovering from injuries suffered when his semi-tractor trailer jumped a guard rail on Interstate 75 in Cook County over the weekend. Officials say that Lopez was traveling too fast to make exit 37. He was removed from the cab of the truck and taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It took two tow trucks to remove the semi from the guardrail. Lopez was charged with several infractions.


 

Stop The Violence rallies are taking place more and more across South and Southwest Georgia. Citizens are forming groups from Terrell to Dougherty to Lowndes and Colquitt Counties. Moultrie pastors, residents and community leaders responded the increase in crime in their area with a march and a discussion of just how to stop the violence plaguing their community.


 

Two Albany boys sustained injuries while playing with a live bullet. The projectile discharged striking one of the boys in the face and the second youth was cut by the exploding cartridge. They were taken to the hospital by Emergency Medical Personnel.


 

Drug dealers were sentenced for their role in a cocaine and crack operation in Cairo. They ir operation was alleged to have been major traffickers and distributors of powder and crack cocaine in the Miami area. A judge sentenced Eddie Perry to serve 20 years in federal prison. Joseph Davenport was sentenced to mandatory life imprisonment, and Brandon Perry got 18 months and credit for time served.
