Haley Eidson, Body Balance Wellness Studio
Eidson has been working in the fitness field as a certified personal trainer since 1999, and has been on the front lines working in gyms teaching group classes, as well as in rehabilitation settings for post-cardiac/neurological and other life threatening/limiting events.
“I found a big gap between physical therapy and boot camps,” Eidson told Valdosta Today. “I’ve done both and I knew there was something missing.”
Body Balance “organically took off,” Eidson said, after a summer of yoga classes. By August a new vision began taking shape. Though two yoga classes are still free twice weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon) to those with scheduled sessions, Body Balance is a step beyond yoga and personal training.
Body Balance offers specialized training a client can use in their everyday lives such as functional medicine health coaching, corrective exercise training and yoga.
“We don’t use a scale or measuring tape because people need to feel what’s important,” Eidson said.
Eidson has been involved in the industry long enough to see the evolution of fitness, and the devolution of health. Increasingly sedentary lifestyles have become the bane of a healthy, fit lifestyle. People sit in front of computers or holding their phones, lost in virtual worlds for hours upon hours on any given day. It isn’t just elderly shut-ins suffering from technology’s inertia. Eidson knew there was something more that the fitness and health sector needed to provide.
“I’ve seen so many things people are suffering from that they aren’t finding answers for from their doctors,” Eidson said. “People with auti-immune disorders, or someone might have a broken sacrum and need something specifically targeted to address that.”
Body Balance Wellness Studio first conducts an assessment of the client, after which a plan specific to their needs will be put into a series of 45-minute sessions that utilize the benefit and understanding of muscle capability, limits and mindfulness to correct damage, decrease pain, and increase progress.
Eidson refers to one 82-year-old client who still works as a nurse. “She needs to work without falling over, she needs to be able to to get around and move quickly,” Eidson explained. “We help her address specifically what will be the best training for her.”
“I want people to leave here feeling great,” Eidson said. “I want people when they come here to feel cared for and loved. I could do this all day long, it is so rewarding.”
