DEKALB, Ga. – After a Brookhaven couple, who wish to remain anonymous, installed their Ring security camera to keep an eye on their new puppy the unthinkable happened.

According to AJC, on Monday night the woman put the puppy in the crate and laid down before she heard a cough from the camera in her bedroom. Initially, she thought that it was her boyfriend checking in, however, a text message confirmed that it was not.

In the video that the couple shared with AJC, the hacker is heard trying to wake the puppy by clapping and yelling before becoming irritated. After reviewing their accounts they learned that their video was hacked three other times.

The incident was reported to Ring and the couple is also filing a police report with the local police.

Ring encourages its customers to use two-factor authentication and to also use strong passwords. A Ring spokesperson made the following statements in response to the situation:

“Customer trust is important to us and we take the security of our devices seriously.  While we are still investigating this issue and are taking appropriate steps to protect our devices based on our investigation, we are able to confirm this incident is in no way related to a breach or compromise of Ring’s security.”

Ring ensures their customers that the incident is in no way related to a breach or compromise of Ring’s overall security. They have also investigated this incident and has taken appropriate actions to remove the bad actors from all affected accounts. All affected users have been contacted.
