In the second shooting at a U.S. military base this week, the first at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard where two civilians were killed by a sailor, another at the Pensacola Naval Air Station has taken the lives of three and injured many others. Two of those injured were law enforcement officers.
Baptist Health Care reported receiving five patients but have updated the number to eight.
The shooting took place around 6:30 a.m. and the base remained on lockdown until 9 a.m., but the NAS will be closed for the remainder of Friday.
PENSACOLA, Fla. – A mass shooting has been reported at the Naval Air Station in Pensacola just before 7 a.m. Friday, December 6, 2019.
According to an AP report, the shooter is dead after opening fire on multiple people.
The active shooter situation is now over, but at this time ten people have been taken to area hospitals. Baptist Hospital has reported they have received at least five patients.
There is a mass emergency response going on at the NAS, and both gates of are closed and the base is on lockdown according to the AP report derived from the Pensacola Police Department.
According to NorthEscambia.com, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the alleged shooter was shot and killed by an Escambia County deputy.
NorthEscambia.com also reported that a World War II Remembrance ceremony was planned for 10 a.m. today at the National Naval Aviation Museum on base where the Tate High School Vocal Jazz and Wind Ensemble were scheduled to perform. It has been confirmed that the students were not yet on base.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office reported on their Facebook page that they were aware of rumors of a possible school shooting circulating on social media at 11:10 p.m.

From the ECSO Facebook posts preceding that, an arrest was made at Tate High School due to felony battery and another had not yet been arrested.
Again, there is no confirmation that these incidents are related but as more information becomes available this story will be updated.
