LOCUST GROVE, Ga. – Four Locust Grove High School students were taken to the hospital early Friday morning after passing out on campus.

Just before 10 a.m. the four students – ages, 17, 15, and two 14-year-olds – were taken to the hospital voluntarily after taking party drug GHB, Henry County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy David Foster told WSB-TV.

A 15-year-old female student, who supplied the drug to her friends, was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute GHB, possession of GHB, reckless conduct and disruption of a public school. This incident resulted in a school lockdown that lasted until 1 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Office insured the public that it was an isolated incident and the four girls were the only ones involved.

GHB was once a legal substance and sold at health stores including GNC. Mostly used for weight lifters who used it as a way to sleep, it quickly became abused for recreational use and people using it would pass out if they took more than the recommended dosage.

Although the directions were specific on the original marketed container, with warnings about how to remedy an overdose (by eating something, which would neutralize the effects), once it was illegal and sold as a powder, people began mixing the white powder substance in drinks and had no idea how to use it and how dangerous it was is used improperly.
