QUINCY— Golf Club of Cairo golfer Jerome (Tank) Martin posted a plus 13 in the GAGP Michelob Ultra Blitz to take first place and win his second GAGP Michelob Ultra Blitz for 2019. Held at Quincy Country Club, players enjoyed a well manicured and picturesque golf course.
Playing the front side and having an up and down round with 3 double bogeys 3 pars 2 bogeys Martin save his best for the number 2 hdcp hole #9 par 5 making a birdie and making the turn with 12 points good for a tie with David Beals of Golf Club of Thomasville posting points on all nine holes.
On the back side Beals posted a double bogey on hole 11 and recovering with 4 pars and 4 bogeys. Mean while Martin continued to go up and down posting 2 double bogeys, 3 bogeys 3 pars and sneaking a birdie in on the par 4 17 th hole to post 25 points to Beals 24 points good for 2nd place finishing third was Billy Walden with the Golf Club of Cairo and Jim Ellis Golf Club of Cairo rounding out the top 4 point makers. Players had a hard time finding the green on hole 15 par 3 as nobody claimed closest to pin in the Michelob Ultra par 3 challenge. Beals and Martin posted 2 skins each while Walden and Ellis each had 1.
Players will travel to Spring Hill CC in Tifton Ga. on October 24, 2019 for the GAGP Points Championship. Defending Champ is Matt Granger of Savannah, Ga. Billy Walden leads the field and will be challenged by Jack Coffey Golf Club of Valdosta and David Beals Golf Club of Thomasville.
