Friday brings another early dismissal for Valdosta City Schools students. The football Wildcats are headed for the state championship game against Tucker State. Dismissal times are as follows:
Valdosta High School-Valdosta Early College Academy and Horne Learning Center 11:30 am-Middle Schools 12:00 pm and Elementary Schools at 12:30 pm. Charter buses will leave the VHS Performing Arts Center Friday December 9th at noon. Seats purchased at the Ticket Office are $40 each plus game ticket which are $18. Tickets purchased at the Dome will be $20.Ticket office hours are as follows: Monday until 4:00 pm; Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:30 am – 12:00 noon and 1:00 – 4:30; Thursday, 8:30 am – 1:30 pm: closed on Friday.
Valdosta Police Department officials report that a lookout and arrest warrants have been issued for a suspected shooter identified as 22-year-old Antwain Devonta Williams. The victim of the shooting is 25-year-old Frederick Keeley who was found Friday night at the East Park Apartments wounded multiple times. He is now listed in good condition and his hospital release is expected soon. Police are asking that anyone with information to contact them.
Joint training will take place over Grand Bay Bombing and Gunnery Range, 8-11 p.m. today. Moody officials say that if training is cancelled or delayed because of inclimate weather, the training will then be held from 8-11 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7. Excess noise may be heard throughout Valdosta and surrounding areas due to the training, overseen by Moody range control specialists, according to the press release.
The 23d Wing is scheduled to hold an emergency response exercise Thursday, Dec. 8. Officials say that the exercise will cause base traffic delays and the closure of some base customer service agencies throughout the day. All gates will be closed from 9-10:30 a.m. Military and civilian first-responder unit’s presence will increase complete with emergency lights and sirens.
Wednesday will be a day of celebration as the observance of the 156th birthday of the city of Valdosta gets underway. The event gets begins at 4 pm and continues until 6 pm at the South Georgia Regional Library-300 Woodrow Wilson Drive.
