A vehicular accident in Tift County has claimed the life of 18 year old Adam Sattler; 16 year old Macy Mathis was airlifted to a Macon hospital and was last listed in critical condition. The cause of the crash is undetermined.
A massive manhunt was launched in the search for a suspect said to be armed and dangerous. Dougherty County officials say that 27 year old Calvin Wooden fired a shot at a sheriff’s deputy after he was spotted and an attempt to stop him failed. He fled into a wooded area where the shot was allegedly fired.
Thomas Murphy and Sharon Hickman were found to be in possession of a gun, marijuana and methamphetamine in Colquitt County. Hickman was a passenger in the vehicle. The duo face multiple charges.
Officials with the Valdosta Fire Department report that minor damage occurred as the result of a fire at the Sweetbriar Condominium complex on Bemiss Road. The blaze began as a grass fire but spread to some of the units. No injuries were reported.
Residents of the Lochwinn subdivision are back at home following an evacuation caused by a chlorine leak that emanated from a private water system.
Thanks to the actions of an alert neighbor in the 1700 block of Williams Street a burglar was arrested. He was spotted and the authorities were notified. 30 year old Jeremy Rhodes faces burglary and obstruction charges.
A Valdosta State University graduate is now a member of the transition team of President elect Donald Trump. Ashley Bell a 2001 grad who is now an attorney in north Georgia will work with other team members in the appointments of foreign diplomats.
