The City of Valdosta Public Works Department, in partnership with Keep Lowndes/Valdosta Beautiful (KLVB) and Atlanta Recycling Solutions, will host the Fall Electronics Recycling event on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Mathis Auditorium parking lot, at 2300 N. Ashley Street, come rain or shine. The city is pleased to offer this service to all residents of Lowndes County. Citizens may drop off a number of electronic items at the event, such as cell phones, computers and their accessories, test equipment, typewriters, cables, video and audio equipment, scanners, cameras and more. Televisions will also be accepted at the event; however, there is a $20 charge per television to cover the cost of dissembling it for the recyclable parts. A number of items will not be accepted at the Nov. 12 event—such as vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, washers, dryers, gas-powered equipment, non-electronic equipment and other non-recyclable items. The Inaugural Southern Soul Macaroni and Cheese Cook off Competition kicks off on Thursday, November 17th at 6 pm at the Cotton Corner. Local restaurants will compete for bragging rights of having the best southern macaroni and cheese. Funds from the competition fully support the local homeless shelter, LAMP (Lowndes Associated Ministries to People, Inc.) during National Homeless Awareness Week. With the purchase of a ticket, participants will vote on the “People’s Choice Winner”. There will also be a silent auction and an opportunity to learn more about the services the shelter provides homeless clients and homeless community members. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department reports the arrests of Jeffrey Miller, Ray Creasy Jr. and Jamie Rumsey- all of Hahira. The two month investigation netted marijuana, methamphetamine, narcotics and a handgun reportedly stolen in Walton County. The investigation into their criminal activity had been ongoing for two months.
Christopher and Cameron Ervin had their day in Gwinnett County Court where Superior Court Judge Ronnie Batchelor sentenced each of them to 20 years of prison time and 30 years of probation once their terms have been served. Court documents show that law enforcement officials held that in September 2015, Cameron and Christopher gave their parents drinks laced with Xanax. They then cut a gasline while their parents slept in an attempt to cause an explosion. The parents were awakened by attempts to smother them. The two brothers beat their mother with a rifle and stabbed their father over 10 times. Both parents recovered and began advocating for the forgiveness of their sons.
