BROOKS Co. – Thursday morning, Brooks County leaders broke ground on a new Boys & Girls Club facility.

Construction will begin on the lot behind their middle school, off of Webster Street.

They say it will be their very first club house, where kids can go after school.

County leaders say the $3 million investment will be worth every penny.

“I think one of the biggest parts of a community is how they get together and support their young people because that’s what we’re sending into the future,” says Larry Cunningham, a Boys & Girls Club board member. “Our gift to tomorrow is the way we prepare our kids today, so we’re excited about this. It’s one more piece to the puzzle.”

The facility will also feature the county’s only public swimming pool.

Cunningham says there’s still $900,000 left to be raised.

He says they’re hoping to have the club house finished by the end of this year.
