ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Piles of debris and trash line some of the streets in St. Augustine. Homes and businesses are now trying to rebuild after Hurricane Matthew came roaring through the area.
“You hate to see it and it was distressing of course,” said Lisa Rinsdale.
Lisa owns a business in the historic district. The floor of her businesses is now gone, and the merchandise is scattered inside. Right now the doors are closed, and she explained that she doesn’t even know when they’ll reopen.
“Just wondering if this is going to be it for me in terms of staying in business, or if I will be able to bounce back,” Lisa said.
But Lisa’s business wasn’t alone. Edgewater Hotel, was the scene of another hard hit area. The hotel was renovated less than two years ago. Now everything inside is on the side of the road for trash.
“You see some places where the houses actually got washed through by the storm walls completely blown,” said Seth Miller, as he drove around town looking at some of the damage.
“I think that moving forward, there’s going to be the rebuilding. Just seeing the tourists out already today so soon after the damage, gives me hope that people are not going to give up on St Augustine.”
