HAMILTON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV Eyewitness News) – A Sergeant with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is recovering after a vehicle accident early Thursday morning.

FHP says Sgt. Thomas L. Griffin Jr., 51, of Jasper, was driving an HCSO Ford Explorer on SE County Road 135 when he lost control and struck a culvert, overturning the SUV, around 3:55 a.m.

Griffin was taken to Shands Hospital in serious condition, according to troopers. A spokesperson with the Sheriff’s Office says that he’s now doing “fine” and suffered a few broken bones.

He was on duty at the time of the accident.

An FHP press release says that Griffin was wearing a seatbelt and the accident was not alcohol related.
