TIFTON – The Tifton City Manager resigned abruptly Thursday.

Larry Riner worked 15 years for the city and nearly five as city manager. Friday will be Riner’s last day.

No details were released about why he’s stepping down, but Mayor Julie Smith says she’ll treat it as an opportunity for the city.

City Clerk Jessica Jones was appointed Acting City Manager until an interim manager is selected.
