CLINCH CO. – A man who escaped from Clinch County Jail custody has been on the run for a week, and it appears officials have not notified the public.

An arrest warrant charging Michael Chance Copeland, 31, with escape was issued on June 15, according to the Clinch County Magistrate Court. It is unclear if Copeland escaped that Wednesday or escaped earlier.

Valdosta Today and WCTV contacted the Clinch County Sheriff’s Office multiple times in an attempt to gather information about the incident but was told the person responsible for providing information was not available and was directed to “try again tomorrow” by a receptionist.

No details have been released concerning the manner of Copeland’s escape, where he might be headed or if he poses a threat to the community.

Copeland has escaped from Clinch County before.

In 2009, Copeland was convicted of escape and sentenced in Clinch County to one year, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Copeland has a lengthy history of convictions, including two counts of entering vehicle and two counts of theft by taking in Clinch County in 2009, three counts of entering vehicle in Lowndes County in 2006 and theft of a motor vehicle or parts and theft by receiving stolen property in Lowndes County before 2006.

Most recently, Copeland was released from the Wheeler Correctional Facility in Alamo, Ga. in July 2014.
