The country is still mourning following the deadliest shooting in U.S. history. A law enforcement official says Omar Marteen, the shooter in the massacre at a gay Florida nightclub over the weekend, was known to the FBI before the incident. Marteen’s father said his son was not driven by religious ideology, but did grow upset after seeing two gay men kissing in Miami a few months ago. However, Marteen reportedly pledged his loyalty to the ISIS, the so-called islamic state during a 911 call. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the shooting. During a press conference, President Barack Obama described the incident as “an act of terror and an act of hate.”

A Colquitt County Sheriff’s deputy resigned Friday morning after being arrested in a domestic violence incident two weeks ago. 30 year old Evan Garlick was arrested on May 28 and charged with simple battery. He was suspended by the Sheriff’s office for two weeks before he resigned.

The Baltimore Orioles drafted Valdosta High School pitcher Seth Shuman in the 39th round of the Major League baseball draft Saturday. Shuman is now the 11th player to ever be drafted out of Valdosta High. Shuman says he still plans to honor a commitment to play football for georgia southern this fall.

Second Harvest of South Georgia has teamed up with Southeastern Credit Union to kick of the Hungry Heroes program which is designed to alleviate hunger in active duty military, reserve and veteran families. Over the summer, the program will distribute nearly 500 food boxes.

The ninth and final HC-130J Combat King II has been delivered to Moody Air Force base to join the 347th Rescue Group. Moody’s newest edition finalizes the order from Lockheed Martin two years quicker than the initial established time line of five years.
