TIFT Co. – Contractor Reames and Son Construction Co. Inc. of Valdosta has finished milling and paving the emergency lane and gores of Interstate 75 North and is scheduled to begin resurfacing the outside (right) lane this weekend.

Sunday, June 5, weather permitting. The contractor is working from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday to minimize traffic interruptions.

The work will affect outside (right) lane of I-75 North beginning south of Southwell Boulevard/Exit 59 in Tift County to south of SR 32/Jefferson Davis Highway/Exit 78 in Turner County.

Milling is the removal of the top layer of asphalt and is done to create a level surface on which to lay new asphalt. This type of work requires favorable weather so rain will affect the schedule.

Reames is resurfacing 18.8 miles of the roadway and off- and on-ramps beginning south of Southwell Boulevard in Tift County and ending south of state Route 32 in Turner County. All the northbound lanes will be resurfaced before work moves to the southbound side of I-75.

The cost of the project is $19.8 million. This is the first major resurfacing of this section of I-75 since 2001. Work began May 8 and is scheduled to be finished Jan. 31, 2017.
