MACON – Scott M. Johnson, 60, of Columbus, Georgia was sentenced Monday to serve 360 months in Federal prison to be followed by supervised release for the rest of his life for production of child pornography, announced Acting United States Attorney G.F. “Pete” Peterman, III.

The sentence was handed down in Columbus by the Honorable Clay D. Land, Chief United States District Court Judge for the Middle District of Georgia.

Johnson pleaded guilty to the charge on May 2. In his plea agreement, Johnson admitted that he molested a 6-year old child on numerous occasions and recorded his activities with a camera on a tripod. The investigation revealed that nine computers found in his home contained 11 videos and 584 pictures with identified victims in addition to the pictures of the 6-year old child. Johnson also admitted that he had been accused of child molestation in the past, but no charges were filed.

“The actions to which this defendant pled guilty today are depraved and despicable. For no purpose other than his own carnal pleasure, he stole the innocence not only of the child he was molesting but of those portrayed in the videos and photos found on his computers and in his home,” said Acting United States Attorney Peterman.

The case was investigated by the Columbus Police Department, Lee County (AL) Sheriff’s Office, United States Secret Service and Georgia Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit. Assistant United States Attorney Crawford Seals prosecuted the case on behalf of the Government.
