BROOKS Co. – An early Monday morning high-speed chase in Brooks and Lowndes Counties ended with four arrests on drug charges and the aggravated assault of a police officer.
At approximately 12:10 a.m., the Morven Police Department was conducting a road check on Georgia Highway 133 in Brooks County when a red 2005 Ford Expedition approached the road check, did not stop for officers and accelerated through the road check, said Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Chris Kelch.
Morven Police Department initiated a pursuit on the vehicle on GA 133 southbound towards Valdosta,” Kelch said. “Morven Police Department requested assistance from Georgia State Patrol. A Trooper observed the pursuit near GA 133 and James Road where he took over the primary position in the pursuit. The vehicle exceeded speeds of 80 m.p.h. in a posted 45 m.p.h. speed zone.”
The vehicle continued driving recklessly through Valdosta on St. Augustine Road, disregarding traffic signals and continuing at high rates of speed. The vehicle attempted to make a right turn onto River Street but lost control due to the high rate of speed.
“The vehicle struck a concrete median and rotated 180 degrees before coming to a stop. The Trooper attempted to pin in the vehicle by placing his patrol car in front of the Expedition. The driver of the Expedition then accelerated ramming the GSP patrol car,” Kelch said. “The Trooper exited his patrol car, drew his service weapon and ordered the driver to stop. The driver complied to the Trooper’s orders and was apprehended by Lowndes County deputies.”
Zatavius Tamar Lewis, 20, of Moultrie was identified as the driver and charged with felony aggravated assault on a law enforcement, felony fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, driving under the influence, reckless driving and driving while unlicensed, according to GSP reports.
LCSO deputies reportedly located several small bags of marijuana during a search of the car.
Lewis and the occupants of the vehicle, Bobby Lee Hill, 21, Jacovia Williams, 17, and a 16-year-old female juvenile, all from Moultrie, face additional misdemeanor and felony drug-related charges from LCSO, reports stated.
Morven Police Department also has additional pursuit related charges. No injuries were reported from law enforcement, occupants or citizens during the pursuit. No property damage was sustained other than the Expedition and damage to the GSP patrol car, reports stated.
