Law enforcement officials in Albany have begun a serious enforcement of a law that went into effect six years ago and they are doing so to encourage young men to pull their pants up or to purchase a belt. Recently several citations have been issued and the ordinance violation carries a $25 fine.
The New Beginning Bible Church in Moultrie is spearheading a Stop The Violence March scheduled for Saturday March 19th at 9 a.m. The demonstration starts at the C. A. Gray Junior High School and proceeds to the Woodmen of the World Park. Members of the community plan to have lots of activities and speakers for the event. City Council member Lisa Clarke Hill is a part of the organizing team working to stem the rising tide of youth violence in the Moultrie area. Within the past eight months 15 teenagers have been arrested in connection with two murders.
AP…Legislation that has passed in the Georgia House of representatives would provide grant’s to pregnancy resource centers offering medical assistance and related services to expecting women. The centers also work to discourage the practice of abortions. The bill has passed in the state Senate and now goes back for agreement. The Senate has proposed a budget measure providing two million dollars to fund operations for the initial year of the program.
The Georgia House of Representatives State Properties Committee passed Senate Resolution 954 conveying access, rights, and privileges to various entities for projects that the state deems important to Georgians. This version of the bill was altered from the version passed by the Senate. The new version includes easements under multiple rivers and waterways that will boost the ability of Sabal Trail (a project of Houston-based Spectra Energy) to build a methane frack-gas pipeline that would run from east-central Alabama to south-central Florida. The Federal Regulatory Commission (FERC) permitting process for the methane frack-gas pipeline is under appeal.
Citizens and community leaders from around the state will convene in the Rotunda of the Georgia State Capitol to raise their voices to protect Georgia’s most precious resource-water. Personal stories, testimonies and growing concerns about the safety of drinking water in places like Cairo and Waycross will be presented. Speakers will discuss their concerns and the need for better protections for drinking water supplies in Georgia.
59-year-old Ivery Lee Williams has been charged with multiple violations of the law by officials in Alma including false imprisonment, aggravated battery, along with possession of cocaine and methamphetamine. He is accused of binding a 24 year old female and holding her against her will, burning her with an iron and beating her. She was transported to the burn center in Augusta.
