ATLANTA – A bill which would allow firearms on state college campuses, passed the Georgia House of Representatives Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee this week.

House Bill 859 would allow anyone over the age of 21 with a weapons license to carry firearms on a public post-secondary campus, except dormitories, fraternity and sorority houses and at athletic events.

The House passed a similar bill two years ago, but it died in the Senate.

The bill passed the committee by a 10-3 vote and will move to the House Rules Committee, which will decide if and when it will receive a floor vote.

House Democrats have protested the passing of the bill, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
