CORDELE – Investigators are working to determined exactly how the owner of a Cordele gas station convenience store was shot and killed during an early Sunday morning robbery; a suspect in the shooting was shot and injured.
At 1:06 a.m., the Cordele Police Department responded to Eastside Grocery on 8th Avenue and 2nd Street.
Two people were reportedly outside the store with gunshot wounds: Sarafaz Khan, the store’s owner, and Marquerious Carter, 21, a suspect in the shooting, reports WALB.
Khan died in the shooting incident.
Carter was taking to Crisp Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Investigators say it is unclear exactly how each person was shot, but a scuffle occurred and multiple shots were fired.
Carter could face armed robbery and felony charges.
The incident marks the sixth time the store has been robbed since 2014.
