MADISON, Fla. – Two Valdostans have been accused of robbing a Madison County Winn-Dixie store Sunday night and leading deputies on a high-speed chase and shootout. One of the suspects is a manager at the store.

DeAnthony Roundtree, 41, and Randal Durrah, 44, both of Valdosta, have been arrested in connection with the incident. Roundtree was reportedly the driver of a getaway vehicle and was also a manager at the Winn-Dixie location that was robbed, reports WCTV.

At approximately 10 p.m., a deputy with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office reportedly observed a man behaving suspiciously in the Winn-Dixie parking lot on Highway 90 West. MCSO had received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery at approximately the same time.

The deputy reportedly tried to approach the man and then observed that the man had a firearm in one hand and a black bag in the other. The suspect then got into a vehicle and led the deputy and a police officer on a chase on east U.S. 90

The suspects reportedly fired shots at the pursuing authorities near the intersection of U.S. 90 and Marion Street, and officers returned fire. The suspects continued to flee north on State Road 53 and exchange gunfire with deputies while travelling at speeds of over 90 mph.

Returned fire from the authorities forced the suspects’ vehicle  off the road, and it hit a power line pole after officers returned fire, reports WCTV. The incident occurred on Highway 53 north of Little Cat Road. A canine caught one of the suspects attempting to flee on foot. Deputies reportedly seized money, two firearms and several rounds of ammunition.

Roundtree and Durrah have been charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, armed robbery and grand theft. Roundtree has also been charged with fleeing to elude police.
