ATLANTA – A man suspected of holding a woman and 11 children hostage this morning near Atlanta is reportedly in critical condition after reportedly stabbing himself when police intervened, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
The hostage situation began early Tuesday morning at a Decatur, Georgia hotel. Officers arrived shortly after 2 a.m. to find a man armed with a knife who refused to come out of a hotel room or to allow a woman and 11 children to leave. The youngest child was 3-months-old. The oldest was 17.
The situation ended at approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday morning when a SWAT team engaged the man after someone inside the room opened the door, according to reports from Channel 2 Action News in Atlanta.
The man reportedly stabbed himself in the neck as SWAT team members entered the room. No one else was injured in the incident, AJC reports.
