OCONEE COUNTY — Recent heavy rainfall has made possible a breach could occur on an Oconee County dam, affecting several area homes.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution is reporting residents in the Briar Lakes Court area were being advised late Tuesday to leave their homes to avoid being trapped. That warning was issued by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.
The report states at least 10 homes are in danger currently, with firefighters and deputies going house to house to notify potential victims.
On Facebook, the Sheriff’s Office posted an aleart, stating: “We do not think there is any danger to other areas from this.”
The report stated an engineer was working to siphon water out before more rain falls, according to the assistant fire chief.
More rain is in the forecast for Wednesday, according to WSB meteorologist Brad Nitz.
