ATLANTA — A South Carolina native and an Atlanta musician were part of a band that headlined a Paris concert where nearly 100 people were reportedly taken hostage on Friday.

635830380990150332-GettyImages-493417510The band Eagles of Death Metal were playing at the Bataclan theatre when a mass hostage situation took place. erupted and dozens were killed. The seige was ended by an assault by French security forces. One police official described “carnage” inside the building, saying the attackers tossed explosives at the hostages, then blew themselves up with suicide belts as police closed in, the Associated Press reported.

Eagles of Death Metal are led by Greenville, S.C. native Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme. An Atlanta native, Julian Dorio, was playing drums with the band for their European tour.

Homme also leads the band Queens of the Stone Age. Michael Homme said Friday that his son is not on tour with the band, and based on his most recent conversation earlier in the day with Josh, who is in Los Angeles, Josh had not heard from Hughes.

The band features rotating members, with Hughes and Homme being the only permanent members. One of those members, Julian Dorio, is from Atlanta and attended the University of Georgia, according to Pearl drums. Dorio graduated from Westminster Schools, according to GeorgiaMusic.org. Dorio is also a member of The Whigs.
