ATLANTA — A Cobb County man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the severe injury he caused by violently shaking his daughter.

Matthew Nutt, 20 of Marietta, was found guilty last week of one count of cruelty to children in the first degree and three counts of simple battery.  This was the result of blunt force trauma he inflicted on his infant daughter in 2011.

The Cobb County District Attorney’s office reported Nutt claimed the girl dropped from his arm while he was vacuuming his home.  She hit her head and that he “shook her just a little” to wake her up. However, Nutt later admitted to shaking her because she was crying.

The child, now 4, has trouble walking and can’t talk as a result of the injuries inflicted by her own father.
