VSU Hires New Women’s Basketball Coach

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Newly hired Valdosta State women’s basketball coach Deandra Schirmer will have an introductory press conference Wednesday, May 15 at 2 p.m., in the Rotunda in West Hall on the VSU campus.

Fans interested in attending the press conference can park in the gravel lot on Georgia Street and enter through the doors closest to the Bailey Science Center. The press conference is free and open to the public and will be streamed online by clicking here.

Schirmer was hired Friday, May 3, 2019, and comes to VSU after working as an assistant coach at Eckerd College for the past five years. She was elevated to Associate Head Coach for the Tritons in 2018. Schirmeralso served as recruiting coordinator for the Tritons where her leadership and player development has helped produce the three most successful seasons in program history. Prior to Schirmer’s arrival at EC, the Tritons had not earned a NCAA postseason bid in the 32-year history of the program.

She helped lead Eckerd to a 106-45 record during her time there and worked under head coach Paul Honsinger, who has been with the program for 13 years. This past season, Eckerd went 22-10 and earned a berth in its fourth regional in five years.
