Georgia gas prices continue to drop at the pump

ATLANTA – Gas prices in Georgia continue to decline at the pump with drivers paying $2.90 per gallon on average for regular unleaded.

Release:

Georgia gas price average continues to drop at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $2.90 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight).

Monday’s state average is 6 cents less than a week ago, 30 cents less than a month ago, and 22 cents less than this time last year. It now costs an average of $43.50 to fill a 15-gallon tank of regular gasolineGeorgians are paying $5.00 less to fill up at the pump compared to a month ago.

“There are many pumps across our state selling regular gas below $3 a gallon and Georgians appear to be taking full advantage of filling their cars up without the worry of breaking the bank,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “We still need to watch global events for the effect on oil prices, which remain fluid but for now, drivers will benefit from falling prices with every visit to the pump.”

Nationally, Gas Prices Keep Edging Lower

Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline decreased by 7 cents to $3.42 (subject to change overnight) maintaining a steady if unspectacular pace.  The primary reasons are flat demand at the pump and lower costs for oil.  According to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand decreased slightly from 8.86 to 8.7 million barrels a day last week. Meanwhile, total domestic gasoline stocks remained flat at 223.5 million barrels. Lower gas demand, alongside declining oil prices, has contributed to pushing pump prices down. If the price of oil remains low, drivers can expect to see further price drops.

  • Enroll in fuel savings programs.

Fuel-Saving Tips for Drivers

  • Maintain your vehicle to ensure the best fuel economy. Find a trusted automotive facility at AAA.com/Auto Repair.
  • Combine errands to limit driving time.
  • Slow down. Fuel economy diminishes significantly at highway speeds above 50 mph. Drive conservatively and avoid aggressive driving. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduce fuel economy.

Traffic Safety Tip: AAA-The Auto Club Group “Move Over For Me” Campaign

“Drivers, if you see a disabled vehicle on the roadside while traveling, be courteous and Move Over,” said Waiters. “Remember the person who broke down could be you, a friend, a family member, a coworker, or a neighbor. Move Over for the safety of others and because it is the right thing to do!”
