Authorities in Cordele quickly made an arrest in the robbery of a local jewelry store. After responding to the robbery and shots fired call a man was spotted and a chase began. The suspect was apprehended and stolen merchandise was recovered.

Donations are being received by Beautifully Designed-a Christian organization that is working in the Back the Blue Day national campaign and the beneficiaries of their efforts will be law enforcement officers in Colquitt County. On Monday various items including water and snacks will be distributed to officers and several drop- off sites have been established; Triangle Furniture-Bentley’s Restaurant and Aero Boutique.

Schools re-open in Tift County August 2nd and this Saturday citizens will gather to pray for the students, parents and staffers. This will be the seventh annual Day of Prayer and those persons wishing to take part in the event are asked to gather at all schools in the county from 9:30am until 10am.

A Dougherty County man has given law enforcement officers there plenty to work with. Jerry Tranbarger III went to the Police Headquarters to pick up a lost wallet. Tranbarger at the time was wanted by police on battery and child cruelty charges, and a white substance inside the wallet was believed to be methamphetamine.  When he arrived to pick up his wallet Tranbarger was searched and three more bags of methamphetamine were discovered. While on a work detail Tranbarger decided to attempt an escape, however, his freedom only lasted about 15 minutes and it was back to jail.

Officials at Highland Christian Academy are excited about their new facility. The school has moved to the renovated campus that formerly served as Pine Grove Elementary. Highland now has the capacity to sign-up almost 400 students. Classes begin next week.

It was a domestic dispute that led to one of the parties involved setting the mattress of the other on fire. The blaze caused damage to the unidentified boyfriend’s apartment; he was out of town at the time of the incident. Three other apartments were also damaged and Shandrelica Bowden was jailed on arson and criminal trespass charges.
