TALLAHASSEE — Sophomore receiver Isaiah Jones, who sat out the 2014 season due to academic difficulties, has left the Florida State football team for good, a source close to the program confirmed Friday. Jones is planning to transfer to another school, but his destination is not known at this time.

Sophomore receiver Isaiah Jones, showing during the spring of 2014, has left the FSU football team.

Jones, a four-star prospect from Milton, Fla., played in five games as a true freshman in 2013. He caught two passes for 31 yards before missing the second half of the season with a foot injury.

Because of his academic issues, Jones was not able to practice with the team during the 2014 regular season but he did return for the month of bowl practices. He had not been seen at FSU’s practices this spring, leading to rumors that he was off the team.

At 6-foot-5 and 194 pounds, he was expected to be a contributor to a young but talented Florida State wide receiver corps this fall. He was the nation’s No. 28 wide receiver in his signing class and chose the Seminoles over Auburn, Arkansas, Clemson, Georgia, Miami and others.

Without Jones, the Seminoles still have plenty of size at the receiver position, with 6-3 sophomore Ermon Lane, 6-3 freshman George Campbell, 6-2 Ja’Vonn Harrison, 6-2 Travis Rudolph and others.
