ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Transportation plow teams have worked through the night to clear roads of snow in Georgia.

Release:

Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) plow teams have worked through the night to clear snow from routes in east-central Georgia.

Georgia DOT’s top priority is clearing the interstates. I-16, I-20, and I-520 remain passable throughout the district, however, drivers should still use extreme caution if they must travel. Crews have noticed some treacherous areas, especially on I-520 in Augusta. We continue to plow and salt bridges on interstates.

Some high-priority state routes are also being plowed and salted, including US 1, US 25, US 441, SR 540, SR 44 in Putnam County, and SR 15 in Hancock and Washington Counties. Drivers using those routes should continue using extreme caution.

Most state routes have not been plowed and will not be plowed until our higher priority routes are clear. We continue to strongly discourage travel throughout the morning as temperatures are not expected to get above freezing until the afternoon. Road conditions may be icy in some locations.

Crews will continue to be staffed around the clock on Wednesday. All district maintenance personnel are working 12-hour shifts.
