TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Some much-needed rain fell on June 3 – 4. The scattered showers and thunderstorms helped put a dent in the drought conditions in North Florida and South Georgia.
The drought conditions as of June 5 improved in parts of South Georgia. Last week, portions of Berrien, Brooks, Clinch, and Echols counties were under a severe drought.
Now, there are no local areas under a severe drought. The drought monitor graphic above showers most counties in North Florida marked as dry (shaded yellow) or under drought conditions (shaded in light brown). A majority of local South Georgia counties are under a drought, or moderate drought conditions (shaded orange).
Rain, high humidity, and saturated ground are also helping limit the spread of the West Mims fire. The fire is 152,515 acres and 65% contained.
