Ohio Gov. John Kasich will end his quixotic campaign Wednesday, clearing the field for presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump, according to NBC News and multiple media outlets,
Kasich is expected to announce that he will suspend his campaign at a rally in Ohio, one day after Texas Sen. Ted Cruz abandoned the race following a devastating defeat in Indiana.
The delegate math for Kasich was even more daunting for Cruz. The Ohioan only won his home state and picked up a smattering of delegates around the nation. He was never in a position to surpass Trump in the race for the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination, but he and Cruz hoped to force a battle at the party’s convention in July.
