VALDOSTA – The Valdosta Police Department has arrested a 28-year-old male after a short pursuit for stealing a gas can at a residence.

On December 23, 204, at approximately 1:20 pm., a citizen called E911 to report that he had observed an unknown male stealing from his residence. The victim stated that his security cameras captured the male entering his carport and stealing a gas can. When officers arrived to speak with the victim, he was able to provide a detailed description of the male.
Based on the description, another officer in the area saw the male, later identified as Gerrick Rolle, 28 years of age, walking in the roadway. When the officer attempted to speak with Rolle, he ran and dropped the gas can. After a short pursuit, Rolle was apprehended. During the arrest, officers recovered a handgun that was concealed in Rolle’s clothing.
Rolle was transported to Lowndes County Jail. He has been charged with:
- Burglary-felony;
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon-felony;
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony-felony; and
- Obstruction of a law enforcement officer-misdemeanor.
“This victim’s security cameras were a valuable resource during this incident. Based on the information received by the cameras, our observant officer did an outstanding job quickly locating this offender. Our officers’ persistence resulted in a gun being located and an offender being held accountable for his actions.” Said Chief Leslie Manahan.
