Release:

On January 7, 2021, at approximately 12:05 pm., Valdosta Police Officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of East Cranford Avenue, after receiving a 911 call about a hit and run traffic accident, which had evolved into a dispute. When the first officer arrived on the scene and was attempting to get information from two citizens, Sherman Cowart arrived on the scene and began to try to attack the subjects that the officer was talking with. When the officer stepped up to stop Cowart, he tried pushing the officer out of the way.

Other officers arrived on the scene, and while trying to determine what had occurred, they were advised that Gregory Younger had been shot in the foot while at a residence in the 1700 block of Largo Circle. Younger was on scene at the residence on East Cranford Avenue and he was escorted to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment and released. Through investigation, it was determined that Younger was arguing with his brother at the residence on Largo Circle. During the argument, Tyronda Walker got involved and pulled out a handgun, shooting Younger in the foot. Walker and another subject left the scene in their vehicle.

Younger then followed them in his vehicle to a residence on East Cranford Avenue. While traveling to East Cranford Avenue, it was reported to officers that a traffic accident had occurred between the two vehicles.

Cowart was arrested on scene and transported to Lowndes County Jail for disorderly conduct-misdemeanor and obstruction of an officer.

Walker was arrested on scene and transport to Lowndes County Jail for aggravated assault-felony and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime-felony.

This incident, as well as the accident, are still under investigation and further charges are pending.
