Release:

On January 7, 2021, at approximately 5:30 pm., Valdosta Police Officers and Detectives responded to a residence in the 1500 block of Baymeadows Drive, after receiving a 911 call about a subject being shot. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Robert Williams with a gunshot wound to his torso. Officers provided first aid until EMS arrived on the scene and transported Williams to SGMC where he was treated and released.

Through investigation, detectives determined that Williams and Curtis Young had been socializing and drinking alcohol throughout the day. An argument ensued between the two males, which resulted in Williams presenting what appeared to be a firearm while threatening bodily harm to Young. Young then pulled a firearm and shot Williams. After the shooting Young fled the scene on foot.

Williams retreated inside his residence and began to argue with a female victim, which he struck in the head with an unknown object.

Officers were able to locate Young at a nearby residence, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Both Young and Williams were taken to Lowndes County Jail where they are being held on the following charges:

  • Curtis Young- aggravated assault-felony, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime-felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
  • Robert Williams- aggravated assault-felony, terroristic threats-felony, and simple battery family violence-misdemeanor.
