Valdosta man arrested after shooting dog

On December 22, 2020, at approximately 9:19 pm, patrol officers with Valdosta Police Department responded to the 400 block of East College Street, to investigate a call from an anonymous citizen who notified 911 Emergency Dispatch a subject, later identified as Eric Smith, had shot and killed a dog. Upon arrival, officers started checking the area in an attempt to locate the dog. Smith came outside of a residence and became confrontational to the officer. Smith continued causing a neighborhood disturbance even after being advised multiple times to return to his home. Smith was detained and later arrested for disorderly conduct. As officers continued to investigate the case, they were able to locate the dog and confirmed it was deceased. Multiple witnesses came forward and provided officers with detailed statements. Smith was transported to Lowndes County Jail and charged with cruelty to animals (Felony) and disorderly conduct (Misdemeanor).
