Valdosta Police are investigating the death of 18 year old Jeffery Franklin, of Cook County, after an incident over the weekend. Police identified Valdosta resident Travis Graham, age 20, as the shooter.
VALDOSTA POLICE DEPARTMENT INCIDENT REPORT
On Sunday, July 5th, 2020, at approximately 2:40 am, responded to a residence in the 3500 block of Lenox Drive, after a citizen called E911 reporting that a person had been shot. Upon their arrival, officers found Jeffery Franklin with a gunshot wound to his torso.
Detectives and crime scene personnel repsonded to the scene and began an investigation. Through investigating, it was determined that there was a small party at the residence when a physical fight broke out with several subjects involved.
During the fight, a subject retrieved a firearm and shot it, striking the victim.
On Sunday morning, Detectives identified Travis Graham as the person who shot Jeffery Franklin. Graham turned himself in to detectives at the police department. He was transported to the Lowndes Coutny Jail and has been charged with: felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Franklin’s family and friends during this time. This was an unnecessary act of violence that cost the life of a young man who had a bright future ahead of him,” said Chief Leslie Mann.
